About requestaprayer.com

requestaprayer.com is built by Sivoh, Inc., a small team of engineers and long-term church leaders whose work in technology is matched by a deep commitment to faith and prayer. Our mission is simple: when someone needs to pray and can’t find the words, this is where they come.

Our Story

Fifteen years in the making

In the early 2010s, brothers Gregg and John Hovis began asking a question that would take more than a decade to fully answer: what would it look like to bring the discipline of prayer into the technology age? They secured a handful of domain names, requestaprayer.com among them, and began sketching ideas. Nothing quite found its footing. The vision was clear but the vehicle wasn’t.

The road through Uplift

In 2017, Gregg and John returned to the idea with fresh resolve. As they began wireframing what they thought would be a web-based prayer tool, the rapid rise of mobile apps pulled them in a new direction. The more they focused on how technology could connect people in prayer, the more the requestaprayer concept gave way to something larger. Together with partner Robert Ford, they launched Uplift Prayer in 2021, a platform built to do for prayer what social media did for connection, only better. Rather than handing people a social network, Uplift gives them the tools to build their own spiritual network, one shaped entirely around the people, groups, and prayer needs that matter to them. Thousands of individuals and churches now use Uplift to post, pray for, and manage prayer requests through groups they form themselves.

Back where it started, and further than ever

As Uplift grew, a pattern emerged: people didn’t just want to share prayer requests, they wanted help forming them. Specific prayers. Personal prayers. Prayers shaped around the exact moment they were living through. Gregg and John saw what AI could do in that space, and requestaprayer.com finally found the direction it had always been reaching toward. Where Uplift Prayer connects people across every dimension of their prayer life, requestaprayer is focused entirely on the act of praying itself, giving anyone who comes here the words they need, for whatever they’re carrying, right now.

The Team

requestaprayer.com is built by people with deep roots in both church community and technology. Each team member has spent decades walking alongside people through life’s hardest moments.

Gregg Hovis, PhD

Co-founder and Collaborator

Gregg has been part of the Stevens Creek Church community for nearly 20 years, serving as an elder, small group leader, and in roles spanning security, first impressions, and events and production support. Over that time he has shown up consistently, not just in official roles, but in the everyday work of helping a community feel like home. He is a husband and father of two adult sons. Gregg is also a business leader, entrepreneur, and technical expert whose 30-year career in digital technology has taken him from fighter-aircraft engine development at Pratt & Whitney to co-founding Direct Measurements, Inc., a structural health monitoring company whose technology was acquired by GE. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina. Today, Gregg leads product development and technology for Uplift Prayer, where his engineering mind and his faith have found a common purpose.

John Hovis

Co-founder and Collaborator

John has served the Coastline Community Church community in Carlsbad, California for over 30 years as a prayer pastor, elder, and leader of men's and couples' groups. For decades he has walked alongside people through life's hardest moments, offering counsel, prayer, and the kind of presence that helps people find their footing again. He is a husband, father of two, and grandfather of six. John is also a businessman and entrepreneur whose career in technology and product development led him to co-found requestaprayer.com, where his faith and his instinct for building things that matter came together.

Robert Ford

Partner and Collaborator

Bob has been part of the Stevens Creek Church community since 2000, joining immediately upon his arrival in Augusta while still on active duty in the U.S. Navy. Over the years he has served as a Board Elder for a decade, and across ministries including First Impressions, Men's Ministries, and small group leadership. He and Gregg have been in the same couples small group together for over 26 years, a testament to the kind of deep, lasting community that has shaped who he is. Bob is a husband and a man whose faith and discipline have always gone hand in hand. He is also a decorated military leader, having served 26 years as a Cryptologic Officer in the Navy, retiring as a Captain, followed by six years at the NSA as Chief of Staff and Director of Operations at NSA Georgia, and later as Principal Lead of the Booz Allen Hamilton Augusta office supporting Department of Defense clients. In 2018 he founded Optimum Health & Financial Coaching, LLC, bringing a Dave Ramsey-certified Master Financial Coach's focus on spiritual, physical, and financial health to the people he serves. Today, Bob brings that same results-oriented approach to habit-building, leadership, and community to his work with Uplift Prayer.
